Between the Lines

Between the Lines, 2018
Risograph prints on paper
59 x 41,5 cm

The installation Between the Lines presents a collection of 30 posters selected from a much larger initiative involving over 100 artists based in Norway. The posters illustrate narratives about gender inequality; a struggle that is so prevalent today despite our modern times. We can read the words, we can understand the symbols and we can feel the violence and sadness, yet simultaneously, we can recognize strength, fearlessness and determination.

Just like themes found in George Orwell’s 1984, issues of inequality are fueled by dominant sociopolitical structures that use power to instigate fear and manipulation in order to weaken the individual.

And yet, activism and the collective voice are also vital forms of power, enabling progress and change for the benefit of many. The most recent example is the #metoo movement from which Between the Lines originated from. In the exhibition 2084, the discussion is given space to continue as a relevant topic of concern, not just for today, but for the future. Each individual poster has a unique story to tell, but it is in the collected action of many united together that will make a difference.

The installation includes posters by:
